Grateful

I was going to post yesterday evening before I went to bed and moan about the rotten day I'd had, but before I write my own blog entry I usually read how other people have been getting on, and after I'd looked at some other blogs I realised that the rotten day I'd had was nothing compared to some of the anxieties and very real problems others had encountered.

So instead of complaining I'm going to take a leaf out of some other blogs and remember what I have to be grateful for:
  • that my problems are only work-related. I'm looking for another job and hopefully will be out of here soon
  • that even here at this awful place I have made some good friends
  • that tonight is my volunteer night and I get to help others
  • that my family and friends are all safe and in good health
  • THAT I HAVEN'T HAD A DRINK SINCE 9pm ON SATURDAY 30 SEPTEMBER
  • that I've found this blogging community

I feel better for remembering the good things rather than dwelling on the bad things, although the bad things still need to be dealt with.

I'm wishing you all a happy, sober day!

It is truly amazing how gratitude lists help us pivot to the positive. I loved reading yours. Congrats on another day off the booze!

Turning our thoughts to others just magically makes our problems shrink!

You sound great, and I bet you will sound greater after your volunteer work.

Omigosh, do you realize how close to 30 days you are???!!!

I'm amazed how doing a gratitude list when I'm down and/or focused on myself and my woes can turn that negative mood and attitude around so quickly. I've never been a "smile even if you don't feel like smiling" kind of person, as I've always believed that to be false and dishonest. There's something about really looking for reasons to be grateful and helping others, though, that changes us almost immediately.

Keep it up, girlfriend, and thanks so much for your kind words on my blog, too. (((hugs)))

I have a trudging sister that always lifts my spirits up. When I call her I GET to hear about her drama (it is minute now that she is sober) and GET to GET out of myself. Isn't that amazing how it works.

Congrats on your new journey and discoveries in your sobriety. Keep on walking, the path is gonna be colorul and serene!
